Appointed to the Board in September 2018 and elected Chair in January 2023, Amanda Eaken is Director of Transportation and Climate in the Healthy People, Thriving Communities Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council. In 2008, Ms. Eaken was instrumental in passage of the nation's first law to connect transportation, land use, and climate change. She was appointed by the California Air Resources Board to serve on the Regional Targets Advisory Committee to review global data on the potential for land use and transportation planning and policy to reduce vehicle miles traveled and greenhouse gas emissions, and successfully built consensus among diverse stakeholders to set ambitious greenhouse gas targets.  

Ms. Eaken established herself as an early leader in the shared-use mobility sector. Ms. Eaken is also a strong advocate for the creation of transit-oriented housing as a core component of sustainable, equitable communities. Since June 2018, she has been honored to serve as Director of Transportation for the Bloomberg American Cities Climate Challenge, a $70 Million, 2.5-year initiative to support 20 US cities to go further, faster on climate action.  Ms. Eaken and her family are dedicated Muni riders and users of alternative transportation modes.
