Carnaval Means A Lively Weekend in the Mission
Service Alert:
Beginning this Sunday, Muni Metro service will implement double stopping on the inbound side of Montgomery, Powell and Civic Center stations. Double stopping will allow two trains to stop at a platform at the same time when the subway is experiencing congestion. This will let customers off the waiting train instead of having to wait until the train pulls forward. You can view double stopping details here.
Traffic Alert:
Caltrans will close the San Mateo/Hayward Bridge in both directions beginning from 10 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday for resurfacing and deck repair work. Expect heavier traffic on the Bay Bridge and Dumbarton Bridge. For traffic and regional service alerts visit 511.org.

Dust off your dancing shoes and venture into the Mission District for an unforgettable experience. The neighborhood will be alive with vibrant colors, extravagant costumes, and the rhythmic ringing of Latin beats as the 37th annual Carnaval Festival and Parade creates a jovial and festive atmosphere showcasing the energy and artistry of Latin American and Afro-Caribbean culture.
Carnaval Street Festival
Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Mission District
This free two day festival which runs along Harrison Street between 16th and 24th streets will feature a combination of seven stages and booths with live music by various artists including renown band leader and Bay Area native, Pete Escovedo. In addition to the music and dancing, there will be great food, arts & crafts, and plenty of entertainment for the kids.
Large crowds are expected and parking will be limited. Consider using public transportation to reduce traffic congestion. Muni's 9 San Bruno, 12 Folsom/Pacific, 22 Fillmore, 27 Bryant, 33 Ashbury/18th, 48 Quintara/24th and 55 16th Street will get you close the festivities.
Muni service note: While there will be no re-routes, service in the area may experience minor delays due to increased ridership.
Carnaval Parade
Sunday, 9:30 a.m.
Mission District
The highlight of the weekend will undoubtedly be the parade filled with a cavalcade of exotically festooned dancers, lively floats and musicians marching in rhythm. This year’s grand marshal will be Bay Area native and musician Sheila E.
Beginning at Harrison and 24th street, the parade will proceed west on 24th Street then move north along Mission Street until it reaches 17th Street where the parade will end.
Due to street closures and large crowds, public transportation is the recommend option. The 12 Folsom/Pacific, 14 Mission, 14R Mission Rapid, 27 Bryant, 48 Quintara/24th, 49 Mission/Van Ness, and 67 Bernal Heights will get you close. BART service to 24th Street is another viable option.
Muni service note: during the parade the following routes will have re-routes: 12 Folsom/Pacific, 14 Mission, 14R Mission Rapid, 27 Bryant, 33 Ashbury/18th, 48 Quintara/24th, 49 Mission/Van Ness and 67 Bernal Heights.
