A Muni station agent greets you from the agent booth

The Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) combines the functions of the Department of Parking & Traffic (DPT), including the Parking Authority, and the San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni). DPT is responsible for enforcement of parking regulations by Parking Control Officers, and for traffic engineering and control functions, including placement of signs, signals, traffic striping curb markings and parking meters. The Parking Authority oversees the operations of City-owned parking garages and metered lots. Muni is the seventh largest public transit system in the United States, as measured by ridership; we have about 700,000 boardings on an average weekday. The SFMTA provides many opportunities for both employment and business.

There are various business-to-business opportunities with the SFMTA.  We are committed to giving vendors an opportunity to provide us with goods and services for our planning, operations, and construction. We use competitive bidding procedures to select vendors and we encourage vendors to participate in our bidding activities.  With a population of 739,426 people, Muni carries the equivalent to the entire population of the city of San Francisco in passengers each weekday. By becoming a SFMTA vendor, you bring customers in your door which can create more business for you.  The SFMTA also provides an opportunity for you to advertise on Muni Vehicles. Advertising on a Muni bus, cable car, or a Metro light rail vehicle is a cost-efficient way to blanket the city with your message. Your ads will travel through a city where people live, work, and visit.

The SFMTA also employs more than 4,500 people in over 200 different job classifications. We hire employees based on a merit system to ensure fair treatment of applicants in all aspects of employment. We seek to hire the best qualified individuals who have successfully completed an examination process and have been placed on an eligible hiring list. Our employees are our most valuable resource and play a key role in providing a convenient, reliable, accessible, and safe transportation system to meet the needs of everyone living, working and visiting in our city.
