Release date: 12/28/09 *** Press Release ***The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) today announced it will provide complimentary Municipal Railway (Muni) service on New Year’s Eve from 8 p.m., Thursday, December 31, 2009 to 6 a.m., Friday, January 1, 2010 for the tenth consecutive year. At midnight, there will be a fireworks show sponsored by the City from a barge off of The Embarcadero, south of the Ferry Building. Motorists should anticipate delays in the area from approximately 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. As an extra incentive for revelers to travel on transit, there will also be special Muni Metro service extended to approximately 4 a.m. between Embarcadero and West Portal stations and extra service on Muni Owl bus routes (1 a.m. – 5 a.m.). No closures or re-routes are planned. SFPD and SFMTA will monitor for any necessary re-routes. Complimentary Muni Service:
Caltrain (www.caltrain.com) will depart its final New Years train from the 4th and King streets Station at 2:15 a.m., Jan. 1. All Caltrain and Samtrans service will be free after 11:00 p.m., Wednesday. BART (www.bart.org) will provide additional service and stations will remain open until approximately 3 a.m., Jan. 1. BART service to the East Bay will be separated between Embarcadero and Montgomery stations. Pittsburg/Bay Point and Richmond trains will stop at Montgomery (not Embarcadero) and Dublin/Pleasanton and Fremont trains will stop at Embarcadero (not Montgomery). Explore: |
