The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which oversees the Municipal Railway (Muni) and all surface transportation in San Francisco, announced today that it will host a panel discussion on Tuesday, September 29 with a European delegation participating in the German Marshall Fund’s (GMF) Transatlantic Cities Network on the successful implementation of bicycle networks and the role of bicycling in supporting environmental, public health and economic goals.

The public is invited to join staff from the SFMTA and other City agencies for the discussion of these topics and how they relate to San Francisco’s current efforts. Board of Supervisors President David Chiu, a former GMF fellow, will provide welcoming remarks.

Through the support of the GMF, a select team of bicycle planning professionals and elected officials from European cities are participating in the delegation. Following their visit to San Francisco and Oakland, the European team members will be heading north to Portland to engage the city, regional agency and community in a discussion about expanding upon their bicycle network. SFMTA staff will participate in the fledgling Progressive Bicycling Cities Initiative being kicked off in Portland in coordination with the visit from the Europen delegation.
