*** Press Release ***

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which operates the Municipal Railway (Muni), advises San Francisco residents and visitors of a permanent Muni bus stop relocation due to restriping on northbound 3rd Street between Market and Mission streets effective this Saturday, August 14.

The stop on the east side of 3rd Street between Market and Mission streets will be moved 150 feet from the southeast corner of 3rd and Stevenson to the northeast corner of 3rd and Mission to allow safer traffic flow at the intersection of 3rd Street and Market Street.

The stop relocation is part of a comprehensive package to improve Muni service on 3rd Street. The street will be repainted between Mission and Market streets to create an extra-wide lane and a new right-turn only lane onto Market Street. Relocating the stop will give buses more distance to change lanes into the new extra-wide lane and avoid being blocked or delayed by cars waiting to turn right onto Market Street. The relocated stop will also better serve Muni customers traveling to and from destinations near Mission Street.

This bus stop is one of Muni’s busiest in the system serving approximately 5,000 boardings a day for the 8X, 8AX and 8BX Bayshore Express, 30 Stockton and 45 Union-Stockton routes. Customer alerts have been posted at the stops with directions to the new location.

The following Muni routes will be affected:

  • 8X, 8AX, 8BX Bayshore Express
  • 30 Stockton
  • 45 Union-Stockton
  • 81X Caltrain Express
  • 91 Owl
