The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which oversees transportation in the city, today announced that this Sunday, March 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., San Francisco Sunday Streets will host its traditional season kick-off on San Francisco’s picturesque waterfront, with a 3.3-mile route along The Embarcadero from Fisherman’s Wharf to Terry Francois in Mission Bay. This Sunday’s event is the first of ten events planned for the Sunday Streets 2012 season.
“Sunday Streets not only showcases San Francisco’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, it is a proven cost-effective way to better health for San Franciscans,” said Mayor Edwin M. Lee. “We’re committed to ensuring the program’s continued growth and success in 2012 and beyond. We look forward to returning to Chinatown, doing a more frequent Mission route, and adding a new route in the Southwest neighborhoods of our City to bring the benefits of Sunday Streets to more San Francisco neighborhoods.”
“Sunday Streets continues to grow in popularity because of the wonderful health and recreational opportunities it provides,” said Edward D. Reskin, SFMTA Director. “As the lead agency for Sunday Streets, the SFMTA plans to continue to grow this program as a way to help residents and visitors get out and experience the best that San Francisco has to offer.”
“Bank of America is proud to support this wonderful event, said Bank of America San Francisco and East Bay Market President Martin Richards. “Sunday Streets and Bank of America share a commitment to building economically strong, connected, healthy communities in San Francisco and to celebrate the many diverse communities that benefit from the program.”
