San Francisco's Bicycle Program works to encourage and educate novice bicycle riders, promote the proper use of bicycle safety equipment, and raise safety awareness for motorists and bicyclists and inform both on how to share the road.

What is the COEXIST CAMPAIGN?
The Coexist Campaign is a Citywide effort to encourage greater respect between bicyclists and motorists, hopefully resulting in safer roads for all users.

How many bicycle collisions were there in San Francisco?
Since 1998, San Francisco has experienced a marked decline in bicycle related injuries, despite a dramatic rise in the number of bicyclists on City streets.* The year 2004 was the first in that period that has not seen a reduction in bicycle related injury collisions.

DPT is committed to reducing traffic-related collisions throughout San Francisco. We promote a comprehensive approach -engineering, education, and enforcement - to improving bicycle safety.
