Safety

  • Bicycle bells can help keep you safe by alerting those around you of potential conflicts, helping avoid collisions.  Learn about the Be Heard campaign.

  • The Bicycle Program takes an active role in educating bicyclists how to ride safely on City streets by offering urban bicycle education classes at no charge through a collaboration with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition.

  • A 50-page guide, created by the Bicycle Program to respond to specific conditions in San Francisco, addresses safe cycling practices in detail and is available at no charge.

  • A one page helmet fitting guide is also available in both English and Spanish.

  • The Coexist campaign within the Bicycle Program educates motorists and cyclists about rules and responsibilities when sharing the road by limiting conflicts and reducing crashes and injuries.
