Minutes of December 21, 2006

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 12:05PM.

Introductions:

Introductions were made in lieu of a roll call.

Reading and approval of agenda:

The agenda was approved as presented.

Approval of the minutes of November 16, 2006 MAAC meeting:

Members approved the adoption of the November minutes.

Comments from the Chair:

MAAC Chair, Ed Evans indicated that he has heard negative rumors about SFMTA’s Transit Effectiveness Project. He indicated that he would like MAAC invite the Senior Action Network who have expressed concerns about the TEP scope and the project’s perceived lacking of attention on Senior Disabled issues.

Patricia Henry, Muni Passenger Services Department

Patricia Henry introduced herself to the committee and described her role in the Passenger Service Report (PSR) process. She coordinates Muni’s neutral hearing / complaint resolution process. Ms. Henry shared her contact information with the committee. She indicated that anyone with questions about the status of their ADA violation complaints should contact her directly.

ADA Complaints:

Patricia Henry presented a comparison of ADA complaint data from November for 2005 and 2006.

Jim Nelson, J-Church / 21st Street Boarding Area

Jim Nelson was unable to attend the meeting. In his stead, Annette Williams described an upcoming Muni construction project at the Chattanooga and 21st Street stop on the J-Church Line.

Nominations for MAAC Recognition Award:

No nominations for MAAC Recognition Awards were submitted to the committee.

Public Comments:

There were no public comments.

Items for Next Agenda:

1.) Jamie Osborne – SFMTA Planning would like to present to MAAC on audible crosswalk signals.

2.) Jamie Osborne – Jessie Lorenz of the Rose Resnick Lighthouse for the Blind would like to talk with MAAC regarding MTC’s 511 phone system

3.) Ed Evans – Would like to invite someone from Muni training to talk about operators not pulling to the curb.

4.) Jamie Osborne – Adrian Moy, the Deputy Director of Safety and Training at SFMTA would like to present to MAAC.

Member’s Questions and Comments:

Jeanne Lynch expressed her concerns that the front seats of Muni vehicles are being used by Mothers with young children instead of Seniors and People with Disabilities. Ms. Lynch also reported that she was recently knocked down while she was trying to exit a crowded vehicle by a young man who was in a rush to board. She requested that the external speaker announcements on Muni vehicles include the phrase, “Please allow passengers to exit before you board.”

Announcements:

Jamie Osborne announced that starting Monday, January 8th, 2007 and lasting approximately one month, the Inbound boarding platform on Judah and 19th will be closed for construction. The construction project will fix damage done to the wayside platform caused by an automobile accident. The nearest Inbound accessible N Line platforms are located at Judah and 9th and Judah and Sunset. He requested that MAAC members pass the word and adjust their travel plans accordingly.

Adjournment:

At 2:10PM, the meeting was adjourned and the 2006 MAAC Holiday Potluck was officially commenced. The next regularly scheduled meeting of Thursday, January 18, 2006, at 1:00PM.
