Service impacts page - delays and reroute information

Changes from Last Year

  • Pre-race:
    • New 1AX/BX, 9AX/BX, 31AX/BX and 38AX/BX service.
    • Additional pre-race and post-race sales locations.
  • Post-race: New location/route for Downtown Express. New West Portal Express.

Express Service and Fares

Pre-Race Muni Service

5:45-8 a.m.:

  • The 5-Fulton express bus will depart from Fulton Street and 47th Avenue, making local stops on Masonic Avenue, then travel express to 1st and Mission streets.
  • The N-Judah express bus will depart from Judah Street and La Playa, make a final local stop on Masonic Avenue, then travel express to 1st and Mission streets.
  • The N-Judah Muni Metro streetcar will run from Judah Street and 19th Avenue to Embarcadero Station
  • Muni Metro service will run from West Portal to Embarcadero Station.
  • Civic Center, Powell and Montgomery stations will not be served by any Muni Metro special service and will open at 9 a.m. as usual.
  • Special event fare (see below) required for the above services.

Post-Race Muni Service

10 a.m. - 2 p.m.:

In addition to the local routes that serve Golden Gate Park, there will be downtown express service available on both the north and south sides of the park.  These services will be the fastest ways to downtown.

  • Downtown Express – Located on the north side of Golden Gate Park. Express buses will pick up passengers along Fulton Street at 30th and 36th avenues. These buses will travel express to Davis and Pine streets.
  • Downtown Special Service (via West Portal Station) – Located on the south side of Golden Gate Park. Express buses will pick up passengers adjacent to Footstock. These buses will travel express to West Portal Station where you can transfer to an inbound Muni Metro train to downtown. The Metro connects with BART and Caltrain.
  • Special event fare (see below) required for the above services.

Local service (pre- and post-race)

Local services at regular fares available from Golden Gate Park to downtown are routes 5-Fulton, 31-Balboa, 38-Geary, 71-Noriega. Route N-Judah owl also runs pre-race and line N-Judah post-race. Routes 28-19th Avenue and 29-Sunset travel both north and south from Golden Gate Park.

Additionally, express bus routes 1AX/BX, 9AX/BX, 31AX/BX and 38AX/BX will run before the race on a modified schedule to a single downtown stop near the starting location.

Fares

Be sure to purchase your Muni fare in advance to speed up boarding and avoid lines. Special event fares are $7 for Adults.This fare is valid on all express and local service until 5 p.m. This fare is not valid on cable cars or the 74X-Culture Bus. Fares are available for cash purchase at the following locations; exact change is always appreciated. :

Pre-Race Fare Locations:

  • ING Greater Body Expo – Bill Graham Civic Auditorium (Friday 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.; no Sunday sales).
  • West Portal, Forest Hill, Castro, Church and Van Ness stations (Sunday 5-8 a.m.).
  • Judah Street & La Playa (Sunday 5-8 a.m.).

Post-Race Fare Locations (all Sunday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.):

  • ING Footstock – Golden Gate Park, Polo Field (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive at 26th Avenue).
  • Fulton Street & 36th Avenue.
  • Fulton Street & 30th Avenue.
