Neighborhood Meeting
Transit and Pedestrian Improvements
at Carl and Cole Streets

Date: Thursday, September 27, 2007
Time: 6:30-8:00 PM
Where: Grattan Elementary School Auditorium, 165 Grattan Street

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is conducting a feasibility study to improve transit operations at Carl and Cole Streets on the N-Judah Metro line. The study will look at the possibility of:

  • Creating expanded light rail boarding areas by widening the sidewalks and relocating the inbound stop immediately east of Cole Street (across from the current outbound stop)
  • Adding transit amenities such as ticket vending machines, shelters and NextMuni displays
  • Relocating wheelchair ramps to the proposed new boarding areas so vehicles don’t have to stop twice when serving wheelchair users
  • Examining the goal of a net gain of parking spaces
  • Enhancing the pedestrian experience on Carl between the park and the Cole Valley merchant corridor, including reduction of sidewalk obstructions, upgraded newspaper racks and other improvements

SFMTA staff is in the very early planning stage and would like to hear from residents and merchants. Please come to this meeting to hear our proposals and share your ideas. SFMTA staff will also briefly discuss the Transit Effectiveness Project, the first comprehensive review of Muni in 25 years.
