RIDE MUNI FREE

Wednesday, August 29, is first 2007 “Spare the Air Day”
Thursday, August 30, is second 2007 “Spare the Air Day”

Wednesday, August 29, 2007 is the first “Spare the Air” day in the Bay Area this year, and is followed by a second "Spare the Air" day on Thursday, August 30, 2007.  The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) will join 32 of their Bay Area transit partners – including BART, AC Transit, VTA, Golden Gate Transit, ACE, SamTrans, and Caltrain – in offering complimentary service.

Muni will provide complimentary service all day to encourage San Francisco residents to use public transportation and lessen the dependence on motor vehicles, the Bay Area’s number one source of air pollution. BART, CalTrain, ACE Train and all Bay Area Ferries are free each day until 1:00 p.m.

Participating agencies fares are reimbursed by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (Air District) and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), using federal transportation, TFCA and Air District dollars allocated to the Bay Area.

Bay Area commuters can learn more about the “Free Fare” promotion at www.511.org.  They can also receive “AirAlerts,” advance notice of “Spare the Air” days and the free transit rides, by signing up for email, text messaging or pager notification at www.sparetheair.org.  Visit www.511.org to find out if your local transit agency is participating in the “Spare the Air/Free Fare” program and to plan your commute.
