Effective Aug. 8, cable car fare collection procedures are improved for Clipper® card customers. SFMTA customers with a monthly Muni pass or cash value loaded onto their Clipper card can now use Clipper to pay a fare on cable cars. Upon boarding a cable car, please show your Clipper card to a cable car conductor, who will use a handheld fare collection device to validate a pass or deduct a cash fare. Seniors, Medicare card holders and persons with disabilities riding before 7 a.m. and after 9 p.m. are advised to pay cash or use a ticket in order to pay a discount fare. Clipper cards and RTC discount ID cards do not support the cable car discount fare. Full cable car fare information Summary of changes
