FTA Mew Starts Ratings

On February 5, 2009, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced its annual ratings for projects currently competing for federal New Starts funds. The Central Subway received a positive review with a “medium-high” rating for project justification and mobility improvements and a “high” rating for land use benefits. The project received a “medium-high” overall rating. While not a guarantee of funding, the rating means that the project will continue to move forward, with encouraging prospects for FFGA.

Each year the Central Subway Project must submit a New Starts Report to be evaluated under the Federal New Starts review program. All aspects of the project have been analyzed including the benefit-to-cost ratios, ridership and technical approach. As a result of ongoing analysis of the project and its progress, the FTA has increased the rating of this project to "medium-high" for project justification and the overall project rating has been upgraded to "medium-high" as well.
