Regular fares

Applies to buses, Metro, and historic streetcars. Applies to service to and from AT&T Park. Does not apply to cable car fares, or to Candlestick Park, CultureBus, and Special Events service fares.

Note: Exact change required. No change given. No refunds provided for overpayment. Subway turnstiles require coins (all denominations of US coins accepted, including dollar coins).

The above fares are good for 90 minutes with a transfer. Always ask for a transfer on all Muni lines except cable cars, even if you do not plan to transfer to another vehicle. Transfers are issued on request at the time the fare is paid.

In Muni Metro subway stations, where you enter by a faregate, the transfer/fare receipt is automatically dispensed from a slot at the far side of the faregate once you have paid your fare. You need to take that transfer before you leave the faregate area.

J, K, L, M, N, S, and T customers must have a transfer/fare receipt or other Proof of Payment.

Cable car fares

  • No transfers/fare receipts are accepted.
  • Fare receipts are issued; one-ride-only receipts are not valid as transfers.
  • Adult & Youth (ages 5-17): $5.00 each way (single ride on a single cable car).
  • Senior (ages 65+) & Disabled:
  • An All-Day Passport is sold for $11 by the conductors on the cable cars. This passport is equivalent to a 1-Day Passport only on the day sold.

Monthly passes, monthly sticker affixed to a valid Regional Transit Discount card, BART Plus, and Passports are valid on cable cars. Valid $1.50 single-ride tickets require an additional payment of $3.50 (no savings). Valid $2.00 single-ride tickets require an additional payment of $3.00 (no savings). Interagency passes do not count towards cable car fares

The conductors can make change for up to $20.

Single ride cable car tickets are available at ticket booths located at Powell & Market, Hyde & Beach, and Bay & Taylor Streets. They're also available at the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau at 900 Market St. (Hallidie Plaza, at Powell & Market Streets).
