Passes and disabled stickers let you ride any Muni regular service, and give discounts on special service. Monthly passes and Weekly passes are available. One-day passes are available as Passports.

Details follow:

If you are a regular rider, consider one of the following pass options:

Monthly Passes: Good for one calendar month, with a 3-day grace period into the next month (for example, the June pass is good from June 1 through July 3). Valid on all Muni streetcars, buses, and cable cars.

  • Adult Fast Pass®, ages 18-64: $45. The Adult Fast Pass is also the only pass valid on the following:
    • BART (offsite link) for trips entirely within San Francisco. There is no 3-day grace period for this usage. You must enter and exit the BART system at one of the following stations:
      • Embarcadero
      • Montgomery
      • Powell
      • Civic Center
      • 16th Street/Mission
      • 24th Street/Mission
      • Glen Park
      • Balboa Park
    • SamTrans (offsite link) route 34 when boarding in San Francisco. There is no 3-day grace period for this usage. For other SamTrans/Muni travel, see links to other agency fare arrangements.
    • Adult Fast Passes are not good for travel on CalTrain. For CalTrain/Muni travel, see links to other agency fare arrangements.
  • The following additional items are available. These are only good on Muni vehicles:

Weekly pass: Good for one week, from Monday through Sunday. Valid for unlimited use on all Muni lines. Cost is $15 for each week. There are no senior, disabled, or youth weekly passes. You must pay an additional $1 to ride the cable cars.

There are many places to buy a Muni monthly or weekly pass. Monthly passes may also be purchased online.

All-Day passport: Sold only on cable cars. Valid for unlimited use on cable cars until midnight of the day sold. Cost is $11. There are no discounts for senior, disabled, or youth on this pass. Similar to 1-Day Passport.

Note: Using any Muni Pass on Special Services requires an additional payment of $3.

Purchasing with a credit card or Commuter Checks

Passes, disabled stickers, tokens, and Muni Maps may be purchased with a Visa/Mastercard credit card at the SFMTA Customer Service Center. Credit cards must be used to make an online purchase.

Payment for passes and disabled stickers may be made by Commuter Checks where indicated in the vendor list. Commuter Checks are an employer-based program.


Replacements and refunds

Damaged or defective passes may be exchanged at any SFMTA operated sales center, including the SFMTA Customer Service Center at 11 South Van Ness Avenue, Montgomery Street Metro Station, and sales kiosks located at the Cable Car turnarounds at the intersections of Powell and Market, Hyde and Beach, and Bay and Taylor Streets. Passes may only be presented for exchange during month of validity and must be recognizable. There are no refunds.

Token Coupon Booklets

These token coupon booklet prices are effective September 1, 2005.

Muni sells token coupon booklets: easier than carrying loads of quarters.

The token coupons sell in booklets of 10 for $15.00, or $1.50 a ride. The token coupons may a time expiration, and you get a free transfer/fare receipt when you use them (always ask for a transfer). A list of vendors that sell token coupon booklets is available.

Procedures for token coupon use:

  • Coupons are valid for one Adult fare for boarding or entrance to Muni paid areas.
  • Tickets removed from booklets prior to boarding or entry are not valid fare.
  • Operator or agent removes or observes customer remove coupon from booklet at center perforation.
  • A single token coupon book may not be used to pay for more than one customer on a single ride. Each customer must have their own token coupon book.
  • Customers will be issued a 90-minute transfer.
  • Do not place coupons in farebox.
  • Light rail: customers board at front door of front car and provide coupon to operator.
  • There are no refunds.
  • There is currenty no expiration date. This policy may be withdrawn at any time. Therefore:
    • Use older coupon books first.
    • Do not hoard coupon books

Existing metal tokens are still valid for a $1.50 cash fare, the same as a token coupon, but are no longer being distributed to the public.


Youth Fifteen-Ride Ticket Booklets

This Youth Fifteen-Ride Ticket Booklet price is effective September 1, 2005.

Youth Fifteen-Ride Ticket Booklets are available for $7.50 for the convenience of schools and youth groups. The tickets are not good for cable car service. They are sold at the SFMTA Customer Service Center.
