The Muni Metro is served by the following lines:
- J Church
- K Ingleside
- L Taraval
- M Ocean View
- N Judah
- T Third
The Metro stations (Embarcadero, Montgomery, Powell, Civic Center, Van
Ness, Church, Castro, Forest Hill, and West Portal) are open the following
hours:
- Weekdays:
5 a.m. to 1 a.m.
- Saturdays: 6 a.m. to 1 a.m.
- Sundays: 8 a.m. to 1 a.m.
After the stations close, streetcar service is replaced by buses above-ground
(Metro Owl motor coaches) for the L Taraval and N Judah lines, which approximately
duplicate the streetcar service. Late night K-Ingleside and T-Third Street service is replaced by the 91
Owl. K customers need to take the L Owl or K-L-M Metro Owl motor coach from downtown
to the West Portal Station, then transfer to the 91 Owl motor coach for
service along the K route to Balboa Park Station.

Metro service is also operated on the surface early Saturday and Sunday
mornings on the J, K, M, and T lines, by a mix of streetcars and buses.
Transfer to and from the J Church at Church and Market, and the K Ingleside
and M Ocean View at West Portal Station.

Metro subway alternatives
In the event of an emergency Metro subway closure, shuttle buses will generally be provided.
In such cases, you may want to consider an alternative route.
The 16X, 28L, 48, 88 and NX operate only during certain hours. The 71 and 71L combined operate normal service hours. All other lines listed below operate normal service hours, that is, from early morning to at least midnight.
