SFMTA Budget Update for Fiscal Year 2010As a result of the severe economic downturn, the SFMTA is facing an unprecedented budget deficit of $128.9 million for fiscal year 2010. To help balance the budget, the SFMTA Board of Directors is considering a broad range of options, including potential service reductions and modifications, which if approved, would most likely be implemented in September 2009. It is important to note that these service modifications do not represent the implementation of the TEP recommendations. However, they have been informed by the data collected and the extensive public input received during the TEP planning phase. While the budget challenges may slow the SFMTA’s progress toward TEP recommendations, staff is currently developing the TEP Implementation Plan and will be presenting it to the SFMTA Board of Directors this summer. In addition, the Agency continues to apply best practices learned through the TEP to improve service reliability, especially on our busiest lines. View overview of the SFMTA budget deficit
SFMTA Board Endorses TEP Recommendations On October 21, 2008, the Transit Effectiveness Project (TEP) reached a new milestone when the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board of Directors voted unanimously to endorse the TEP recommendations for the purpose of initiating any required environmental assessment. SFMTA Board hears public comments on TEP Staff RecommendationsAt its September 16th meeting at City Hall, the SFMTA Board of Directors heard comments from over 100 community members and stakeholders about the staff recommendations of the Transit Effectiveness Project. The Board also formed the Ad Hoc TEP Review Committee, which evaluated 18 of the most commented-on proposals. Muni Ridership Data Available OnlineRidership data for each weekday service bus and rail line is now available online at www.sfmta.com/tepdata. From October 2006 to June 2007, the SFMTA captured a tremendous amount of information on its bus and rail lines, including exactly where customers are boarding vehicles and how many people are riding the system throughout the day.
