Who is involved in the TEP?

The TEP is a partnership between SFMTA, the agency that oversees Muni, and the Controller’s Office, which helps City departments evaluate the effectiveness of their services. SFMTA and the Controller’s Office have contracted with one of the nation’s top transit consulting firms, Transportation Management & Design, Inc. (TMD), to provide transit planning expertise. Together these agencies and TMD will serve as the project team.

A number of groups and individuals have provided the project team direction and input throughout development of the TEP. These include:

  • The Public, including all residents, transit customers, visitors and commuters, are an important part of the TEP. Comments and questions are encouraged throughout the project. For information on how you can get involved, view Contact Us.
  • A Policy Advisory Group that includes representatives from the Mayor’s office, Board of Supervisors, transit unions, TEP Citizen Advisory Committee, SFMTA Citizens Advisory Council, San Francisco County Transportation Authority, and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, provides guidance on policy-level issues affecting the TEP. Meeting summaries are available.
  • A Technical/Regional Advisory Committee that includes representatives from various City departments and local and regional transit agencies provides technical review and comments during development of the TEP and draft recommendations.
  • A TEP Citizen Advisory Committee that includes representatives from a wide range of community organizations that cover local transit and ridership, business, environmental, and other interests. The TEP-CAC will closely review and provide input throughout the project. TEP-CAC meetings are open to the public and anyone interested is welcome to attend. Agendas and meeting summaries are available. A list of advisory group members is also available.

Agendas and meeting summaries are available for the advisory committees. A list of advisory group members is also available. Input from the various advisory groups, including the TEP Citizen Advisory Committee, will be considered at every step of the process, as well as public comment at milestone points.

Questions the TEP considered:

  • What is our vision for public transit in San Francisco?
  • How does our system compare to other cities and what can we learn from them?
  • How effective is our existing service and operations?
  • Who rides Muni today and how can we attract new customers?
  • What improvements can we make starting now and in the near future?
