The Circular Avenue Draft Traffic Calming Plan
SFMTA Staff and the community (including members of the Sunnyside Neighbors Association) reviewed the draft Circular Avenue Traffic Calming Plan at a community meeting on October 10, 2006. Attendees reached consensus that the speed hump option would be done first and that additional funding for the traffic chicane option will be done in the future. Here is the funding/phasing plan (pdf).
Plans for each alternative/option are below:
Speed Hump Alternative: Circular Avenue between Judson and Flood Avenues (pdf)
Speed Hump Alternative: Circular Avenue between Flood Avenue and Monterey Boulevard (pdf)
Traffic Chicane Alternative: Circular Avenue between Judson and Flood Avenues
Traffic Chicane Alternative: Circular Avenue between Flood Avenue and Monterey Boulevard
Ballots for the Phase 1: Speed humps. The speed humps have been approved by residents. They have passed the DPT Public Hearing and the MTA Board. Construction was finished by September 2007.
UPDATE (9/01/07): We recently inspected the speed humps that were recently constructed, and found that the speed humps in the Circular Avenue south of Baden Street were somewhat higher than the standard City design. As a result, DPW crews will be replacing these speed humps per the proper specifications.
Please note that the standard height and design of the speed hump was crafted to be in line with national guidelines and thorough testing and consulting with the Fire Department and Police Department and other members of the community at large for whom the speed humps pose some impacts. They are still designed to accomplish a reduction in speeds but with these factors taken into account.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience on this important project.
