Buena Vista Avenue - Roosevelt Way - 17th Street Traffic Calming Project
This project was made possible in part by the San Francisco County Transportation Authority through a grant of Proposition K Local Sales Tax Funds.
Project Information
The Buena Vista Traffic Calming Project began in December 2008 with a series of community meetings discussing resident’s concerns about speeding and pedestrian safety in the area. Through a community process, SFMTA staff, working directly with local community working groups, developed a plan for traffic calming in the area. This plan was approved by the SFMTA Board and granted funding through the SFCTA’s Proposition K Local Sales Tax Fund. The Buena Vista Traffic Calming Project: Final Report is available for viewing.

Project Updates
On May 31, 2011 the SFMTA met with residents along Roosevelt Way between Levant Street and 15th Street/Park Hill Avenue to discuss community concerns with the design proposal sent out in the April 6, 2011 letter to the community. At the meeting, the SFMTA presented two design alternatives for mid-block traffic calming: the Modified Chicane alternative and the Painted Edge Line alternative. At the end of the meeting, residents were asked to vote on which design alternative to implement with a strong majority supporting the Modified Chicane alternative.
To supplement the consensus building process, the SFMTA sent out ballot cards to the 200 block of Roosevelt Way asking them to vote on their preferred design alternative. Balloting the 200 block of Roosevelt Way ensures that all residents have a chance to vote on potential changes to the block, including those residents that were unable to attend the community meeting. We expect to inform the community of the results in late October.
NOTE: We are aware of a printing error that resulted in some residents not receiving the Plan Diagram: Modified Chicane and Painted Edge Line attachment. We apologize for the inconvenience. To view the attachment online, please click Plan Diagram: Modified Chicane and Painted Edge Line.
