Central Richmond / Lake Street Traffic Calming Project

This project was made possible in part by the San Francisco County Transportation Authority through a grant of Proposition K Local Sales Tax Funds.

Project Update (as of June 28, 2011)

General

Thanks to all who have participated in the community process for this project.  The SFMTA Traffic Calming Program will now seek funds to implement the recommended changes. The final report for this project is available here

Please make note that some speed humps were removed from the plan originally presented to the community due to concerns raised by Muni and the San Francisco Fire Department.

Location Specific

17th Avenue and 18th Avenue Speed Hump Ballot Results:
The Final Report for this project area has called for the installation of one or more speed humps. Ballots for these speed humps were sent out in July 2010 and June 2011. Per the SFMTA Traffic Calming Guidelines, speed humps will be installed where a majority of residents on the block of the proposed speed hump voted in favor of the hump. The table below shows the percent of ballots returned for the block and the percent of those responses for and against each speed hump proposed in this project area.

Where respondents have approved a speed hump, we will now determine if there is a suitable location for its installation. If a location on the block is found to be consistent with SFMTA guidelines, we will then schedule a public hearing and post notices of the hearing on your block. Public hearing approval is required for any new speed hump construction.

Speed Hump Ballot Results

14th Avenue and Lake Street:
The SFMTA is reviewing comments received from the property owners regarding the proposed pedestrian refuge island.

Balboa Street and Funston Avenue:
A planted median island was installed at this location (see photo below).
