West Portal Traffic Calming ProjectThis project was made possible in part by the San Francisco County Transportation Authority through a grant of Proposition K Local Sales Tax Funds. Project InformationThe West Portal Traffic Calming Project began in Sept 2005. Read the West Portal Newsletter (PDF), West Portal Final Traffic Calming Plan (PDF), and the Funding-Phasing Plan (PDF). Project UpdateResidents in the project area on 15th Avenue, 17th Avenue, and Wawona Street were sent ranked choice ballots so they could choose between a speed hump, a landscaped median island, or no change. All the blocks voted for speed humps, which have been constructed. A speed hump was originally planned for 18th Avenue in the event that traffic patterns shifted as a result of the other speed hump installations. Any shift in traffic has not been overly apparent and no residents on 18th Avenue have voiced concerns. No further action is planned at this time, but residents of 18th Avenue are encouraged to contact the SFMTA if they feel that there is an issue that needs to be addressed.
