Casual Carpool Pick-Up Locations
The casual carpool pick-up point in San Francisco is on the east side of Beale Street between Howard and Folsom streets. The signed destinations are Fairfield, Vallejo, Suisun, Richmond Parkway, Hercules, North Berkeley, Del Norte, Orinda, Lafayette, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Concord and Oakland (Claremont Avenue or Lakeshore/Grand).

For information on how to create a new Carpool Permit Parking area, please see Section 908 of the Transportation Code, Division II, Article 900.


Vanpool Parking Zones & Permits
Vanpools with permits are allowed to park at any meter with a time limit of an hour or more, or in time-limited parking zones with a time limit of an hour or more--except zones that have 7-9 a.m. or 3-6 p.m./4-6 p.m. towaway hours or other restrictions.

Vanpool permit parking is reserved for vans of 7-15 people. This program is administered in coordination with the 511 Regional Rideshare Program . See our Vanpool Permit Fact Sheet (.PDF file) and download an application (.PDF file).

DPT is only responsible for the issuance of Vanpool permits. For questions about permit issuance please call the Permit Office Customer Service number at 415.255.3900 .
