Start date: October 17, 2009 End date: October 18, 2009 Area affected: Union Square and Various streets throughout San Francisco On Sunday, October 18th, there will be the 6th Annual Nike Marathon. The course is the same as last year. The start will be in Union Square with the finish at The Great Highway. There will be over 15,000 runners from throughout the United States participating in this event. With the exception of the start and finish , many of the closures will involve shared roadways with runners using a lane of traffic separated by cones. The course will start at Union Square. Post Street between Stockton and Powell will close at 11 PM on Saturday, October 17th. . Other streets in the Union Square area will close a 3:30 AM until 10 AM. The race will begin at 7 AM. Walkers will have an earlier start at 5:30 AM. Runners will go east from Post to Montgomery to Washington to The Embarcadero. Runners will head north along the Embarcadero onto Jefferson Street, using the McDowell path through Fort Mason onto Marina Blvd. Streets will be re-opened through the Fishermans Wharf area by 10 AM. From the Marina Blvd, runners will enter the Presidio and come out via El Camino de Mar to 32nd Ave to Clement St.to 45th AVe. to Point Lobos and out to the Great Hwy. The runners will then enter Golden Gate Park. The Great Hwy from Pt. Lobos to Fulton Street will be re-opened by 11 AM. Once back on the Great Hwy from Martin Luther King Way, runners will head south to Skyline Blvd to Lake Merced Blvd. to John Muir Dr.and back to Skyline to The Great Hwy. and the finish line on The Great Hwy between Lincoln Way and JFK Drive. The Great Hwy will be re-opened by 4 PM. At all times, there will be local access for residents throughout the course.
