  1. Gate Fee Cap
The SFMTA Board approved the cap on gate fees that may be charged for the use of a San Francisco Taxi.  A Color Scheme Permit Holder or a Medallion Holder may not charge Drivers a Gate Fee that exceeds $10.62 per hour for a lease period equal to or shorter than 12 hours, or $127.44 total for any lease period that ends by the following calendar day.  This cap goes into effect on November 17, 2022.
  2. Board of Appeals
The SFMTA Board decided not to take action on the proposal to remove language referring to the Board of Appeals from the Transportation Code. Instead they indicated that this topic should be considered separately.  These references are contained Sections 1119, 1120 and 1121 of the Transportation Code.

At the SFMTA Board meeting, a number of taxi industry members commented on the authority of SFMTA to discontinue allowing taxi permit appeals to be heard by the Board of Appeals. In order to provide more information about the legal underpinnings of SFMTA’s decision, please see the attached memo from the City Attorney’s Office, dated August 24, 2022.

The SFMTA Board also approved a number of minor revisions and Transportation Code clean up items. The staff report and supporting documents can be found here.
