Bridge and Tunnel Closures Plus a Cocoa Run

Wednesday, January 7, 2015

“On Tap” gives you a heads up about the big events in town and what Muni routes and lines will get you to the party. Look for this feature to be posted usually on Wednesdays for a look ahead to the weekend.

Sunset Tunnel Improvement Project
Friday, 7 p.m. through Monday, 2 a.m.
Sunset Tunnel

Now that the holidays are over, track, sewer and infrastructure work on the Sunset Tunnel revs back up this Friday at 7 p.m. and will run until 2 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 12.

This project is slated to occur on 12 weekends through June. The next tentative dates are the weekends of Jan. 23 and Jan. 30.

Muni service note: During construction hours, bus shuttles will substitute N Judah Line service between Duboce Avenue and Church Street and La Playa and Judah streets. The N Line will see some residual service delays in both directions. N Line patrons should plan ahead and leave early when possible.

Golden Gate Bridge Closure
Saturday, 12:01 a.m. to Monday, 4 a.m.

Due to the installation of the new moveable median barrier, the Golden Gate Bridge will be closed this weekend to vehicular traffic, while the bridge’s eastern sidewalk will remain open to pedestrians and bicyclists. Be advised that the bridge’s parking lots will be closed.

Golden Gate Transit bus service will be allowed access over the bridge during the weekend, while Golden Gate Ferry will expand its weekend service including late night service.

Plan accordingly to work around the bridge closure as other bridges and roadways may see increased traffic.

Muni service note: There will be no 76X Marin Headlands Express service during the bridge closure.

Hot Chocolate Run
Sunday, 7:30 a.m.
Golden Gate Park

If you are looking to make 2015 a banner year, why not start the year on a high note by challenging yourself to a 5K or 15K race at the Hot Chocolate Run in Golden Gate Park?

The race’s mission is to provide individuals with an “unforgettable and unimaginable emotional experience.”  In addition to the transcendent experience, race participants are known to walk away with award winning goodie bags and premium swag.

Proceeds from this event will benefit San Francisco’s Ronald McDonald House.

For those looking to run or cheer on someone you know, Muni service on the 5 Fulton, 18 46th Avenue, 21 Hayes, 28 19th Avenue, 29 Sunset, 31 Balboa, 33 Stanyan, 44 O’Shaughnessy, or 71 Haight/Noriega will get you to the action.

Muni service note: the 18 46th Avenue will have a re-route, while the 5 Fulton, 21 Hayes, 28 19th Avenue, 29 Sunset, 31 Balboa, 33 Stanyan, 44 O’Shaughnessy, and  71 Haight/Noriega may see increased ridership.
