Holiday Ice Skating

Wednesday, November 12, 2014

“On Tap” gives you a heads up about the big events in town and what Muni routes and lines will get you to the party. Look for this feature to be posted usually on Wednesdays for a look ahead to the weekend.

After a myriad of parades, street fairs, music festivals, and baseball madness, this weekend may in fact be the quietest weekend of the fall calendar. Aside from continued work on the Sunset Tunnel, there are no major re-routes or street closures. So enjoy the respite and look forward to the official start of the holiday season with some early winter wonderland fun.

Holiday Ice Rink
Daily, 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Union Square

Set in the center of downtown San Francisco, the Union Square Ice Rink is recognized as one of the “best skating rinks in the United States” and provides a festive atmosphere for holiday cheer. This year, a portion of the rink’s proceeds will go to benefit the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department.

Skaters of all ages can take either of these Muni service routes: Powell Cable Car Line, 2 Clement, 3 Jackson, 8X Bayshore Express, 30 Stockton, 38 Geary, and 45 Union/Stockton.

Muni service note: no service will be affected.

Embarcadero Ice Rink
Daily, times vary
Justin Herman Plaza

A holiday tradition near the waterfront for more than 25 years, the Ice Rink at Embarcadero Center is the largest outdoor rink in the City. This year like previous seasons offers families and couples the opportunity at creating holiday memories for a lifetime.

Holiday revelers can take the F Market, Muni Metro to Embarcadero Station, or any Market Street route to Justin Herman Plaza.

Muni service note: no service will be affected.
