Thanksgiving News and Notes

Tuesday, November 25, 2014

“On Tap” gives you a heads up about the big events in town and what Muni routes and lines will get you to the party. Look for this feature to be posted usually on Wednesdays for a look ahead to the weekend.

Today we're getting a jump on the holiday weekend by bringing you the weekend "On Tap" a day early, including the adjusted schedule for Muni and links to keep you in the know on the parking dos and don'ts.

Revised Muni service schedule: Adjusting for reduced ridership over the Thanksgiving holiday, Muni service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day and a non-school weekday schedule on Friday, November 28. In addition, there will be no express service, including Richmond Express routes, NX Judah, 41 Union, and 88 BART Shuttle, on either day.

For information on the holiday parking enforcement schedule, please check the SFMTA holiday parking enforcement page and the Port of San Francisco website.

Also, please be sure to check out our holiday shopping and safety release—it's got lots of good tips to ensure your holiday weekend is festive and fun.

Thanksgiving Day 5K Run
Thursday, 8 a.m.
AT&T Park

While Thanksgiving means turkey, pumpkin pie, and football for some, the Thanksgiving Day 5K Run, which goes from AT&T Park to UN Plaza via The Embarcadero, Howard Street and 7th Street, looks to raise awareness for those who are at risk of going hungry in San Francisco and Marin counties not just during the holidays but throughout the year. Run with a purpose as proceeds from this event will benefit the Food Bank.

Turkey Day runners can take the N Judah, T Third, 10 Townsend, 30 Stockton, 45  Van Union/Stockton, and 47 Van Ness to the starting line at AT&T Park.

Muni service note: During the race the 5 Fulton and 19 Polk will have re-routes. As runners wind their way to the finish line at UN Plaza, service routes along the course may experience delays.

Union Square Tree Lighting
Friday, 6 p.m.
Union Square

Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la, la la la la…

Tis the season for festive lights; while New York City’s tree at Rockefeller Center may grab the lion share of attention, San Francisco is no slouch when it comes to ornate foliage. For a quarter century, Macy’s has sponsored the city’s annual tree lighting tradition at Union Square helping to usher in the merriment of the holiday season.

Holiday revelers can take the Powell Cable Car Line, 2 Jackson, 3 Clement, 38 Geary and 38L Geary Limited routes.

Muni service note: The 2 Clement, 3 Jackson, 38 Geary and 38L Geary Limited will have re-routes, while service on the Powell Cable Car Line will be motorized.
