An open field with yellow flowers at McLaren Park
At 312 acres, McLaren Park is San Francisco's second largest park.

A panoramic view of downtown San Francisco from McLaren Park
McLaren Park provides a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city, while keeping it well in view.

Did You Know?

  • Established in 1927, the park is named for John McLaren, the "grandfather of Golden Gate Park."

  • The park is known for its immense natural area of scenic meadows, grassland and wetland habitats.

  • McLaren Park, located in District 10 at Mansell Street and John F. Shelley Drive, is home to the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater, Glen Eagles Golf Course, McNab Lake and the newly renovated Coffman Pool.

  • Louis Sutter Playground, near the corner of University and Woolsey streets, provides the largest area of recreational facilities including: a community clubhouse, two baseball diamonds, two tennis courts, a full-size basketball court, two modern play areas for children, a junior soccer field and 16 tables for picnicking.

  • Fox Creek is located along the south slope of the amphitheater seating. While it is thought to be a watering hole for the endangered Grey Fox, it is more frequently visited by the Great Horned Owl and, most recently, squirrels.

  • People on foot will enjoy the over seven miles of walking trails that meander through the park.
