Weekend Tricks & Treats: Halloween and Day of the Dead

While a busy October rapidly comes to a close this weekend, it certainly will not go quietly as a costumed army of ghosts, ghoulies, witches and everything spine tingling and Internet meme-ing prepares to take to the streets in search of candied loot and revelry on All Hallows’ Eve. On Saturday, while there are no planned Halloween events in the area of Market and Castro streets, the 24 Divisadero, 33 Ashbury/18th Street, 35 Eureka, 37 Corbett and L Owl routes are subject to re-routes. Beginning at 4 p.m., the westbound F Market will turn back at Market and Noe streets.
And don't forget — daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m., Sunday!

Day of the Dead Procession
Monday, 7 p.m.
Mission District
A tradition with roots that trace back hundreds of years, Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) has become one of the city’s best known cultural events and a Mission District institution. The procession, celebrating and remembering departed ancestors, will mix music, art and performances. In addition to the procession, there will be a Festival of Altars at Garfield Square from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The procession will take place in the heart of The Mission District commencing at 7 p.m. from Bryant and 22nd streets moving along Bryant Street up 24th Street then across Mission Street down 22nd Street and back to Bryant Street.
Procession watchers and participants can utilize the 12 Folsom/Pacific, 14 Mission, 14R Mission Rapid, 27 Bryant, 48 Quintara/24th Street, 49 Mission/Van Ness, 67 Bernal Heights routes, or BART to 24th Street station.
Muni service note: due to the procession route and the large number of anticipated participants, the 12 Folsom/Pacific, 14 Mission, 14R Mission Rapid, 27 Bryant, 48 Quintara/24th Street, 49 Mission/Van Ness, and 67 Bernal Heights will have re-routes.
Construction Alerts and Reminder:
Central Subway track expansion construction work at Fourth and King streets will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday, November 6 continuing through Saturday, November 14. During construction, traffic in the surrounding area as well as service on the N Judah, T Third, F Market, and E Embarcadero will be affected. Sunset Tunnel construction work is scheduled to resume the weekend of November 7. Bus shuttles will provide N Judah Line service between Duboce Avenue and Church Street and Ocean Beach from 5 a.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Monday. Regular N Judah train service will operate between Fourth and King streets and Duboce Avenue and Church Street. During construction, Nextbus time predictions for the N Line will not be available.
The Muni Metro subway continues to close early each night at 9:30pm for system upgrades. Metro bus shuttles will operate between St. Francis Circle and Market and Spears streets from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
