Van Ness Construction Forecast: August 21-September 1, 2017

The following Van Ness Improvement Project construction forecast is subject to change due to weather or unforeseen conditions. For more project details, please visit sfmta.com/vanness.

Work is planned over the next month to create two construction zones: one southbound on Van Ness Avenue from Sutter to McAllister streets, and another northbound from Jackson to Lombard streets. These work areas will be approximately five feet from the building line to approximately the center of the roadway.

To make space for these construction zones, the following changes will occur:

• Blue curb parking for people with disabilities and loading zones will be temporarily relocated beginning Tuesday, August 22 (see map for locations)
• Bus stop located on southbound Van Ness at McAllister will be reconfigured beginning Wednesday, August 23
• Southbound traffic lanes are expected to shift Monday, August 28
• Parking is expected to be temporarily removed for construction southbound Van Ness between Sutter and McAllister beginning Monday, August 28
• Northbound traffic lanes are expected to shift Tuesday, September 5
• Parking is expected to be temporarily removed for construction on northbound Van Ness between Jackson and Lombard beginning Tuesday, September 5

Project staff is reaching out directly to businesses and residents on blocks that are impacted by these changes. See the full schedule of expected activities below.

Those who travel in and through the area are advised to take alternate routes and plan for delays.

Monday, August 21: Traffic control maintenance and construction site preparation will be conducted on Van Ness between Lombard and Mission Streets. Trenching and installation of duct banks for powering buses will continue between Grove to McAllister streets.

Between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. existing lane striping will be removed and new lanes will be marked between Grove and Pine streets and between Washington and Lombard streets. Note: Neighbors are advised to anticipate construction-related noise as crews work diligently to complete this necessary night work.
