**Statement of Condolences from SFMTA Director of Transportation, Edward D. Reiskin**

Tuesday, May 12, 2015

Speaking for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and its more than 5,000 employees, I express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the child killed near Lakeview and San Jose Avenue in the tragic collision this morning involving a Muni train. Our condolences go out to all concerned during this difficult time. The SFMTA will continue to work with the San Francisco Police Department as we undertake all necessary investigations of this matter.

The SFMTA adopted a Vision Zero policy in 2014, with the goal of eliminating all traffic deaths in San Francisco by 2024. We are committed to working with our partners to make our streets safer, while educating the public on traffic safety, enforcing traffic laws and prioritizing resources to implement initiatives that save lives.
