Construction is well underway for near-term improvements on Taraval Street, part of the L Taraval Rapid Project. We’re currently wrapping up the second week of work and have already installed the following improvements:

  • Clear zones at 32nd and 40th (outbound only), and at 42nd and 44th in both directions. As a reminder, you cannot park next to clear zones. Signage has been posted.
  • Painted outlines of pedestrian safety zones (interim sidewalk corner extensions) at 33rd and 38th. The khaki-colored paint and “safe hit” posts to be added soon.
  • New continental (zebra striped) crosswalk at 32nd, and we refreshed the continental crosswalks at 38th, 40th and 41st.

Next week, once the rain clears, we’ll start work on the boarding zone pilot locations, which include the inbound L Taraval stops at 26th, 30th, 32nd, 35th and 40th. The first part of the process will involve taping the street markings (Transit Boarding Area) within the boarding zone locations. Following, our paint shop will come back through with a stencil and paint to put the final touches on the upgraded zones.

The paint shop will also begin stenciling the transit-only lane next week. As a reminder, we’ll be evaluating the transit-only for one year to identify any necessary mitigations.

Stay tuned for more updates on construction progress. If you have questions in the meantime, contact muniforward@sfmta.com.
