Powell Street Pilot Made Permanent

On July 18, 2017, the SFMTA Board voted to approve permanent parking and traffic modifications which keep the traffic restrictions that were piloted between November 2015 and June 2017. These restrictions reduced traffic volumes by 60%, and turn volumes by 75%, which reduced the likelihood of auto-pedestrian collisions. These effects also reduced wear and tear on the cable which powers the Powell Street cable cars by 23%. Following a successful pilot, the new rules will remain in place permanently.
