Temporary Relocation of Casual Carpool Pick-Up Location to Begin Monday, September 23, 2013

San Francisco—The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which manages transportation in the city, today alerts casual carpoolers of an 18 month relocation of the afternoon pick-up location from San Francisco to the East Bay due to a new construction project at the current site. The relocation will start on Monday, September 23rd.

In an effort to accommodate the evening commute, the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure and the SFMTA have identified the west side of Spear Street, between Howard and Folsom Streets as the new temporary location (flyers and maps attached). Casual Carpool pick-up will continue to operate between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday at this location.

A new residential construction project on the north side of Folsom Street between Beale Street and Fremont Street is scheduled to begin this fall. Due to safety concerns associated with construction activities, the current Casual Carpool staging area will be relocated to the temporary site for approximately 18 months (nine metered spaces on west side of Spear Street between Howard Street and Folsom Street).  After 18 months, the Casual Carpool will return back to its current location or another alternate location.

Due to the construction schedule, the pick-up location is being relocated prior to conducting a public meeting. The Sustainable Streets Division of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will hold a public meeting and request public comment on Friday, October 4, 2013, at 10AM, in Room 416 (Hearing Room 4), City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B Goodlett Place, San Francisco, CA 94102. The public meeting will determine whether the casual carpool remains as proposed for the next 18 months. Written opinions may also be transmitted by fax to (415) 701-4737 or by email to sustainable.streets@sfmta.com with subject line “Public Hearing.”
