The Guardian’s China Correspondent Profiles the Beijing Subway

Each Tuesday we bring you a tidbit of transit news or trivia, either from our own backyard or from around the globe.

Today’s Internet find comes from Beijing by way of London. It’s a fascinating profile of the Beijing subway system by the UK’s The Guardian newspaper, including an interview with one of the designers of the first line, which began construction in 1965.

Perhaps the most illuminating feature of the piece is the two-minute timelapse video of a subway voyage. Keep your eyes peeled for the fluffy pink slippers at 1:47.
