All Aboard and Make Some Noise!

Wednesday, December 3, 2014

“On Tap” gives you a heads up about the big events in town and what Muni routes and lines will get you to the party. Look for this feature to be posted usually on Wednesdays for a look ahead to the weekend.

The first weekend of December looks to be a quiet affair with not much stirring, not even a mouse. But with the holiday season in full swing, we’re sure you will find things to do. Just in case, take a look at these local calendars for some helpful ideas: SFGate, SFWeekly, and FunCheapSF.

El Mercado
Friday through Sunday, varying times
Ghirardelli Square

Noise Pop brings a new holiday bazaar to San Franciso, El Mercado will be a showcase of food, art, and music. Taking over Ghirardelli Square, more than 20 food vendors and 40 artisans plus local indie rock bands will bring their best as they look to enthrall both locals and tourists alike.

If you are interested in visiting El Mercadero, you can take several Muni options including: the F Market Line, Powell Hyde Cable Car Line, 19 Polk, 30 Stockton, 47 Van Ness, and 49 Mission/Van Ness routes.

Muni service note: Due to the closure of Beach Street between Larkin and Polk from noon, Friday to midnight, Sunday, the 19 Polk will have a re-route. Service routes around Ghirardelli Square may see increased ridership.

Caltrain’s Holiday Train
Saturday and Sunday, 4 p.m.
Fourth and King Station

While it may not be a ride on the “Polar Express,” a hop on Caltrain’s annual tradition is a close second. Kick off the season of sharing and giving by taking a trip on the Holiday Train. Over 70 thousand festive lights festoon the train as merriment and revelry chug along to nine stations between San Francisco and San Jose.

Enticed? Our friends at the Samtrans/Caltrain blog, Peninsula Moves, can fill you in on this festive tradition.

In addition to a lively ride, bring a toy for donation and distribution by The Salvation Army and Toys for Tots.

If you’re interested in watching the train pull out of the depot, you can take Muni's N Judah, T Third, 10 Townsend, 30 Stockton, 45  Van Union/Stockton or 47 Van Ness to the Caltrain station at 4th and King.

Muni service note: No Muni service will be affected by this event.
