Let It Snow, Let It Snow!

Wednesday, December 17, 2014

“On Tap” gives you a heads up about the big events in town and what Muni routes and lines will get you to the party. Look for this feature to be posted usually on Wednesdays for a look ahead to the weekend.

With the official start of winter a few days away, bigtime events have gone into hibernation, so take a look at these local calendars for some ideas: SFGate, SFWeekly, and FunCheapSF.

Downtown Snow Fall
Now through December 30, various times
Hyatt Regency
5 Embarcadero Center (Market and Drumm streets)

Oh the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful, And since we’ve no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

While Jack Frost is not known to frequent these parts, you can still experience a San Francisco styled holiday Snow Fall at the Hyatt Regency. Creating an awe inspiring winter wonderland, the hotel’s 17-story atrium lobby boasts more than 300 thousand lights, a popular Snow Village exhibit with over a thousand holiday pieces, plus the must see falling faux snow which occurs twice daily on weekdays and eight times during the weekends.

Intended for the child in everyone, you can ride Muni Metro to Embarcadero Station, any Market Street bus route to Market and Drumm streets, or the California Cable Car Line to California and Drumm streets.

Muni service note: No Muni service will be affected by this event.

Celebrate the Festival of Lights

The Bill Graham Menorah Project celebrates Hanukkah with large outdoor events in Union Square as the renown “Mama Menorah” is on full display and will be lit over the next seven nights through next Tuesday, with special gatherings on Saturday and Sunday. Also next Tuesday, the Westfield Centre will host a ceremony to light the grand menorah.

If you’re interested in an edgier Hanukkah celebration, venture over to the Contemporary Jewish Museum tomorrow night for an indie rock infused extravaganza.

For Union Square activities, travel on the Powell Cable Car Line, the 2 Clement, 3 Jackson, 38 Geary, and 38L Geary Limited routes. For Westfield Centre and Contemporary Jewish Museum take the Muni Metro to Powell Station or the 14 Mission Route to Mission and 4th streets.

Muni service note: No Muni service will be affected by these events.
