Sunset Tunnel Project Resumes

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

After two consecutive weekends of major Muni re-routes, this weekend will be much calmer. Spring officially arrives this Friday with the spring (vernal) equinox. Couple that with some beautiful weather, and it’s a great time to be out and about. Options include National Corn Dog Day(!) and The Midnight Mystery Ride. Check out The Bold Italic, Event Guide, FunCheapSF and SFWeekly for some creative ideas.

Just a heads up, on Saturday the 12th anniversary Iraq War Protest will be held at Market and Powell streets. Market Street Muni routes may experience delays. Also, the 14 Mission and 49 Mission/Van Ness routes may see delays due to a lowrider caravan along Mission Street to The Embarcadero and back, as well as a film premiere at the Mission Cultural Center located at Mission and 25th streets. SFMTA personnel will be monitoring and will make service adjustments as needed.

There will also be construction. Our work on the Sunset Tunnel, which runs between Duboce Park and Cole Valley, will start again. Muni bus shuttles will be in place on the N Line west of Church and Duboce. Details are below.

After a hiatus, track, sewer and infrastructure work on the Sunset Tunnel resumes this Friday at 7 p.m. and will run until 5 a.m. on Monday, March 23.

This project is slated to occur on weekends through June. Of the 15 original scheduled weekends, four have been completed. Work is also tentatively scheduled to take place on the weekend of March 27.

Muni service note: during construction hours, bus shuttles will substitute for N Judah rail service from Duboce Avenue and Church Street to La Playa and Judah streets. The N Line will see some residual service delays in both directions. N patrons should plan ahead and leave early when possible.

“On Tap” gives you a heads up about the big events in town and what Muni routes and lines will get you to the party. Look for this feature to be posted usually on Wednesdays for a look ahead to the weekend.
