Bluegrass, Baseball & a Neighborhood Bash!

Baseball, bluegrass, a street fair and two bridges help to kick-off an events-laden October. Beginning on Friday, the Giants close out their 2015 season with three home games against the Colorado Rockies. As it has all season long, Muni service will get you to and from the ballpark. On Sunday, runners will race from Bridge to Bridge to benefit the Special Olympics Northern California. During the run, the F Market and 39 Coit will be affected.

If you’re looking to get the weekend started early, join the Transit Riders Union tomorrow night from 6 to 10 p.m. for their PUBlic Transit Crawl along the 38 Geary. Salut! Also taking place tomorrow, San Francisco Public Works will host another Art Night SF in UN Plaza from 5 to 9 p.m. In addition to more art, there will be children’s crafts, food, cocktails and music.

Golden Gate Park

Warren Hellman’s lasting gift to music and the city, the 15th annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass music festival kicks off on Friday in Golden Gate Park’s Hellman Hollow and Lindley and Marx meadows.

Three days of free music across six stages featuring dozens of performances by everyone from emerging talent to established  artists including Emmylou Harris, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Flogging Molly, Lee Ann Womack and T Bone Burnett.

Street parking will be limited, consider using public transportation. "Bluegrass" fanatics can take the 5 Fulton, 5R Fulton Rapid, 7 Haight/Noriega, 28 19th Avenue, 29 Sunset, 31 Balboa, 38 Geary, 44 O’Shaughnessy, and the N Judah.

Muni service note: Routes near Golden Gate Park may see delays due to increased ridership and traffic.

Supplemental service pre- and post- event will be provided:

• Friday on the 5 Fulton, 5R Fulton Rapid and the N Judah.

• Saturday and Sunday on the 5 Fulton, 5R Fulton Rapid, 28 19th Avenue, and 29 Sunset and the N Judah.
   

Castro Street Fair
Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Castro and Market streets

Continuing a tradition started by Harvey Milk, the Castro Street Fair celebrates the artists, craftspeople, and merchants that bring vibrancy color, and pride to the Castro making it one of the city’s must-see neighborhoods.

Entertainment venues will be spread across five different locations and will feature performances by the San Francisco Lesbian Gay Freedom Band, Cheer SF, the Ethel Mermen Experience and more.

To ease congestion and traffic in the area, fair goers are encouraged to take public transportation courtesy of the F Market, 24 Divisadero, 33 Ashbury/18th Street, 35 Eureka, 37 Corbett or Metro subway to Castro Station.

Muni service note: Due to street closures, the F Market, 24 Divisadero, 33 Ashbury/18th Street, 35 Eureka, 37 Corbett and early morning K-L-M Owl bus service will have re-routes.

Construction Reminder:

The Muni Metro subway continues to close early each night at 9:30pm for system upgrades. Metro bus shuttles will operate between St. Francis Circle and Market and Spears streets from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
