When the Clock Strikes Midnight...

Wednesday, December 30, 2015

Well, it’s that time again when we look back at the year that was and look forward to the fresh New Year to come with all its endless possibilities.

To help get 2016 started off right, Muni will shuttle you to and from all the New Year’s festivities — for free. Whether you’re watching San Francisco’s free fireworks show along The Embarcadero, hitting a jumping nightlife spot or toasting at a good old fashioned house party, let Muni be your ride.

The 16th year of Ride Muni Free New Year’s Eve, sponsored by 76, includes all Muni routes and lines – even cable cars. Fare gates will be set for “fare-free” until early Friday morning. To enjoy the complimentary service, make sure you don’t tag your Clipper Card!

Many Muni lines will also have extra late night service. Be sure to check out our New Year’s Eve service page so you can plan your year-end celebrations and leave the car at home.

New Year’s Eve Muni Service at a Glance:

  • Complimentary Muni service from 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31 to 5 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1.

The Embarcadero

You know the spirit of the party starts to come alive
Until the day is dawning
You can throw out all the blues and hit the city lights…

George Benson’s lyrics from Give Me the Night couldn’t ring truer than on New Year’s Eve. Welcome 2016 as the San Francisco Bay provides the perfect backdrop for a colorful, awe inspiring and booming pyrotechnics display along The Embarcadero. Enjoy the excitement and thrills, but dress warm to avoid the chills.

Take advantage of the complimentary Muni service by taking Muni Metro to Embarcadero Station, any Market Street bus route or the 14 Mission Route to Market and Steuart streets.

Muni service note: routes may see heavier ridership during evening and late night service trips.

Construction Reminders:

The Muni Metro subway system upgrades will not take place between Thursday night and Friday morning due to extended service hours for New Year’s.
