8th Avenue Neighborway Project Open House

Please join the SFMTA for a community open house for the 8th Avenue Neighborway Project. The goal of this project is to make 8th Avenue a more pleasant place to walk and bike to neighborhood destinations and nearby parks. Right now, 8th Avenue carries more than twice the traffic of similar parallel streets. With this project, we've proposed changes, including forced turns for vehicles, to calm 8th Avenue and bring traffic volumes down to a comparable level with neighboring streets.

The Van Ness Business Advisory Committee is made up of representatives from a diverse cross-section of businesses along Van Ness Avenue. Members act as the voice of the community and provide recommendations and advice on how staff can best work with local businesses during construction of the Van Ness Improvement Project to bring out the character that has made this vital thoroughfare one of the city’s grand avenues.

These Friday hearings in front of a city traffic engineer and hearing officer cover traffic and parking changes that stem from public requests or larger agency initiatives. Some items on the agenda can be approved at the public hearing; others require final legislation by the SFMTA Board of Directors.
