Construction Impact Surveys and Intersection Daylighting

Construction Impact Surveys underway

In order to minimize the impacts expected by construction of the Van Ness Corridor Transit Improvement Project, we are surveying neighbors along Van Ness Avenue.

The survey is helping the project team to consider the needs of neighbors who will be affected the most by construction that is scheduled to begin at the end of 2015. The information gathered will inform the scheduling and sequencing plan. The construction schedule is expected to be finalized this summer.

Neighbors on Van Ness Avenue have been mailed a postcard encouraging them to go online to take the Construction Impact Survey. And, a team of ambassadors have been hitting the streets going door-to-door to survey residents and businesses who may not have had a chance to take the survey online.

Daylighting makes Van Ness intersections safer

It is now easier to see at six intersections that are part of the Van Ness Corridor Transit Improvement Project now, thanks to a simple safety treatment called “daylighting.”

Daylighting improves the line of sight at intersections for people walking and driving by keeping the space clear of visual obstacles with a simple red painted curb. Read more about daylighting in our blog.

Legislation for this simple and affordable street treatment was approved in November 2014 and comes in advance of the project construction to support our commitment to the City’s Vision Zero Policy.
