Sunday Funday This Weekend: Sunday Streets, How Weird on Howard, and a 5K in the Park

How Weird Street Faire

Sunday, 12 to 8 p.m.
Downtown

Everyone needs a little weird in their lives sometimes and the How Weird Street Faire will be celebrating its 19th year of doing its part to meet those needs this Sunday afternoon. A project of the non-profit World Peace Through Technology Organization, this decidedly unique event celebrates peace and weirdness in the heart of downtown San Francisco centered around Howard ("How Weird?") and Second streets. Colorful costumes, dancing, live music and even a special marketplace mark the event as thousands of people gather to have fun, make new friends and, above all, be weird.

How to Get There on Muni: Those looking for some weird fun can take Muni Metro to Montgomery Station, the F Market and Wharves Line, as well as any Market Street bus route, the 8 Bayshore, 10 Townsend, 12 Folsom/Pacific, 14 Mission/14R Mission Rapid, 25 Treasure Island, 30 Stockton, or the 45 Union/Stockton routes close to the event.

Muni Service Notes: The 10 and 12 will have reroutes, while other routes near the event may experience increased ridership and minor delays.

Girls on the Run 5K

Sunday, 7 to 11 a.m.
Golden Gate Park

The Girls on the Run 5K is a family-friendly event featuring a DJ, Zumba, face painting and, of course, a 5K fun run. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. and will proceed from the Music Concourse along JFK Drive to Crossover Drive before looping back to conclude at the Music Concourse. All proceeds from the event benefit Girls on the Run of the Bay Area, an organization that aims to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running and exercise.

How to Get There on Muni: Riders may take the N Judah Line as well as the 5 Fulton, 7 Haight/Noriega, 21 Hayes, 28 19th Avenue, 29 Sunset, 31 Balboa, 33 Ashbury/18th Street, 43 Masonic or 44 O'Shaughnessy routes close to the event.

Muni Service Notes: The 44 O'Shaughnessy Route will have a reroute. Other routes to and from the event may see increased ridership and minor delays.

Sunday Streets: Tenderloin

Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tenderloin

This month's edition of Sunday Streets takes the pedestrian-focused car-free fun to the Tenderloin. Sunday Streets is a joint project between the SFMTA and Livable City that promotes active lifestyles while giving guests an intimate way to interact with neighborhoods by closing roads to vehicles and opening them to pedestrians, cyclists, vendors and more. This Sunday the event opens up the centrally located Tenderloin neighborhood, one of the city's oldest and one rich with an array of restaurants, small businesses and nonprofit services. 

How to Get There on Muni: Riders may take any Muni Metro line to Civic Center Station, the F Market and Wharves Line, as well as the 2 Clement, 3 Jackson, 5 Fulton, 6 Haight/Parnassus, 7 Haight/Noriega, 8 Bayshore, 9 San Bruno, 14 Mission/14R Mission Rapid, 19 Polk, 21 Hayes, 27 Bryant, 30 Stockton, 31 Balboa, 38 Geary/38R Geary Rapid, 45 Union/Stockton, 47 Van Ness, 49 Van Ness/Mission or 76X Marin Headlands Express routes close to the event.

Muni Service Notes: The 19, 27, and 31 will have reroutes. Other routes in the area may experience increased ridership and minor delays.

Reminder of Weekend Early Closures of Twin Peaks Tunnel: Preparatory work inside the Twin Peaks Tunnel ahead of the summer closure continues this weekend. Stations will close early on Friday and Saturday nights to provide crews extra time to work inside the tunnel. Buses will run in place of the K, L and M lines. K, L, and M subway service will resume at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday morning.
