Electrical Switch and Conduits Set for Installation

Neighborhoods Affected

UPDATE: In order to maximize the construction opportunity and avoid additional disruptions to the public, the SFMTA has adjusted the work plan to include the conduit installation of a private developer in the sidewalk trenching along Church Street. To combine the two projects, the trench excavation scheduled to begin on Monday, Nov. 5 is being postponed to January 2019. By doing this, we can also minimize the impacts to the local businesses during holiday shopping season.

A construction notice will be disseminated to local merchants and residents prior to the upcoming construction.

Sidewalk remains open

Church Street sidewalk remains open during concrete work

As the Church Divide Feeder Circuit Upgrade Project, formerly known as the Church and Duboce Utility Cabinet Replacement Project, is making headways, the installation of the electrical switch and conduits will begin on Monday, November 5, 2018 and will last for about two weeks. This work will require us to dig a three-foot-wide trench on the western sidewalk of Church Street from Market to Reservoir Street. The sidewalk will remain open with a path of travel provided for pedestrians. Access to local businesses and residence will be available at all times. Here is what to expect:

  • Work hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

  • Trench will be covered by plywood after work.

  • Trench will be securely barricaded during work.

  • Trench digging will take place section by section and it will take one or two days to finish the section in front of a property.

  • Noise can be heard during excavation.

Thanks to the community feedback collected during public comment period, we redesigned the project to allow us to underground the surface utility cabinet planned for Church & Duboce intersection. The new feeder circuit system will ensure transit service reliability.
