6th Street Pedestrian Safety Project - April 2020
Thank you for your interest in the 6th Street Pedestrian Safety Project.
During the shelter-in-place mandate resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, we at the SFMTA are undertaking a variety of programs to keep San Francisco moving safely for those essential trips which must be made.
For seniors and people with disabilities, we created the Essential Trip Card, which allows for 2-3 subsidized round trips by taxi per month for essential needs.
To keep the bus network viable in the face of dramatic personnel shortages, we have implemented the Core Service Plan which keeps vital links open using the fewest possible routes to reach the largest percentage of residents.
And for those areas which are impacted by loss of Muni service, we are starting the Slow Streets pilot program which limits through traffic on certain residential streets and allows them to be used as a shared space for foot and bicycle traffic, and for queuing at grocery stores.
The Covid-19 pandemic has affected businesses of all types and sizes. The City and County of San Francisco has pledged to help businesses recover from this difficult time, as well as to assist employees who have found themselves out of work or working reduced hours. The Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD) has created a one-stop resource for both employers and employees, which can be found at oewd.org/covid19.
In addition, the Mayor held a webinar for small businesses on Monday, April 27th at 3 p.m. (see below for details).
Of course, SFMTA staff are continuing work on the construction design and mitigation phases for the 6th Street project to ensure that we minimize disruption as much as possible.
