Sustainable Streets Division Directive Order No. 6278
Pursuant to the public hearing held on July 31, 2020, traffic movement and safety may be improved by the changes approved below. The Environmental Clearance for these items is noted on Order No. 6268.
1. ESTABLISH - RED ZONE
Funston Street, west side, from 20 feet to 45 feet north of California Street
(extends existing 20 feet red zone)

The proposed modification includes extending an existing red zone due to a resident's concern of enough clearance between the parking lane and the traffic calming islands when approaching the intersection. Often times, if a larger vehicle is parked close to the intersection, larger vehicles are unable to pass and go around the traffic calming island into oncoming traffic.
Decision: Approved by the City Traffic Engineer to send to the SFMTA Board for legislation and implementation for the red zone to be extended from 20 feet to 50 feet north of California Street, a 25-foot red zone extension.
Public Comments: Received comments in support of extending the red zone by an additional five feet.
2. ESTABLISH – RESIDENTIAL PERMIT PARKING, AREA X ESTABLISH – 2-HOUR PARKING, 8 AM TO 6 PM, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, EXCEPT VEHICLES WITH AREA X PERMITS
Rhode Island Street, both sides, between 18th Street and 20th Street

The proposed modification extends RPP Area X to allow residents to obtain RPP permits.
Decision: Approved by the City Traffic Engineer to send to the SFMTA Board for legislation and implementation. #

This proposal would daylight the westbound approaches of Filbert and Greenwich streets at Polk Street to improve visibility between drivers and pedestrians. Each zone would remove approximately on unmarked, perpendicular parking space.
Decision: Approved by the City Traffic Engineer for implementation.
Public Comments: Received comments in support.
Whether or not the City Traffic Engineer’s decision is considered a Final SFMTA Decision is determined by Division II, Section 203 of the Transportation Code. If the City Traffic Engineer approves a parking or traffic modification, it is considered a Final SFMTA Decision. If a City Traffic Engineer disapproves or declines a parking or traffic modification, a member of the public must request additional review by the SFMT
