6th Street Pedestrian Safety Project Update - October 2020

Neighborhoods Affected

6th Street Email Update – October 2020

Pedestrian safety on San Francisco streets and sidewalks continues to be in the news. Despite lower traffic volumes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Mayor’s emergency declaration to shelter in place, we have continued to see too many incidents and injuries.  The 6th Street Pedestrian Safety Project, which is on the Vision Zero High Injury Network map, therefore remains a key priority of the SFMTA.  While the agency is reviewing where and how to reduce expenditures as a result of the economic downturn, this project has been funded, and we expect construction to begin in early 2021.

Correction!

Last month in mentioning the Skybridge on Stevenson project, we missed giving credit to the key project sponsor, the San Francisco Parks Alliance, whose mission is "to champion, transform and activate parks and public spaces throughout the city."  They will continue to host events on Stevenson every Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. so there’s still time to check out this entertaining and supportive project!

Moving Forward on 6th Street

The San Francisco Department of Public Works is finalizing the contractor selection process for this high-priority project.   Once that contractor is selected, we will be able to provide a general timeline for when work will be performed, so stay tuned!
